A step closer.

Firstly, the "freezing studio" question was answered...

... and very succinctly, too. My father in law suggested I should be concerned about my guitars because they're made of wood and that most electronic components, although not functional at extremely low temperatures, should be fine. Moisture, he said, is what I should be concerned with. It certainly helps to have a cryobiologist in the family when you're worried about stuff freezing! I feel relieved by his educated reassurance although I'll probably have a beer or a shot of whisky before firing everything up when we've settled in Edmonton. In fact, it's looking like it might even be cheaper just to ship it instead of renting a truck ourselves. I'll just cough up the money for insurance and put it out of my mind.

So the "step closer" came today with the amount of my next ASCAP cheque. To call the cheque "disappointing" just wouldn't do my disappointment justice. Suddenly, this is feeling more like an escape than a voluntary move; a desperate flight before the money completely runs out. I'm still optimistic, excited, etc... but this move has taken on a certain urgency.

On a completely different note, I'd gladly take every one of the Care Bears out back and put a bullet in each of their fuzzy little heads. How on earth did something so appallingly awful get made? ... and how can my daughter sit and watch this crap? ... and what do you know, but my prayers have been answered! Just as I finished typing that, my daughter brought a DVD of "Shrek 2" over to me and said "put on moowie, peas?" She's probably filled her movie quota for the day, but I think I'll reward her good taste... or at least improved taste.

I priced BMW 325is's today online. I'm hoping to get between $6,500 and $7,500 for my car. How depressing. My wife has announced a garage sale for the 22nd of October. Selling off your stuff to raise money for bills has always felt to me like dropping sandbags from a balloon - you know you're going down, but you might as well try to delay the inevitable. At least this garage sale has a purpose behind it.
