A few loose ends

I just re-read my blog from start to finish (don't ask me why I'm wasting my time on that when I should be packing)...

... and I realised that a few things were kind of left hanging.

1. "Due North" - My only reference to this was an idea I had of an L.A. director up north and then said there was more too it. Well at this point, I'm planning on either a 13 or 20 episode run (leaning towards 13). I've actually got ten show ideas on paper, three more in my head, and three scripts written. It's a lot more than a germ of an idea. As I mentioned earlier in the blog, I've already shot a couple of scenes, ADR'ed them (replacing dialogue because of car noise), and written the source music for one of the scenes and written, recorded, and mixed the end titles. I have a couple of pick-up shots to get this Saturday, and then it's on the shelf for awhile while I cut the Gun Club documentary. (More on that later.) Here are the end titles:

End titles for "Due North" (O Canada)

2. Storage facilities in Edmonton - One of the facilities I left my number with called me back a couple of days ago. We've now got two 10x30 units ready for us. Oh the relief! ... and they're in Spruce Grove, too. I'm hoping we'll be able to let one of them go, but I really have no idea how much space we'll need. Better to have too much than not enough - I don't know what would happen if the moving van showed up and there wasn't enough space for everything...

3. My car - I had an offer of $5,500. Not too bad but during the call, the guy reminded me that I need to get the car smogged before I can sell it. It won't pass a smog test due to the coolant leak. The coolant leak will cost $1,400 to fix. No good. I had another offer of $3,000. That was just downright insulting. I've decided, for now, to keep the car - buy a cover for it, and park it at my parents' place. My dad will take it out every week or two, and I'll fly down one way in April when I come down for the film festival the Gun Club film is in (more on that later) and drive the car back to Edmonton.

4. The freezing gear question - I've decided to try to put the entire studio in the back of the van. Wish me luck!

5. Desk appraisal - The appraisers never called me back, but my dad had a great idea: Call the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Murray the "K" , after all, was a major player in the early days of rock and roll. It took the head curator about two weeks to get back to me and he said that he really wished they could do something with the desk and chair, but they don't have any use for it. We've decided to take it with us. To auction it as a piece of furniture would be a huge waste - it needs to be auctioned as a piece of history. I'd rather wait and do it right.

Today, I'm going to finish packing up the studio and pack up all of my clothes and bedroom stuff. Tomorrow, we head to the Valley for the wedding. I can't forget my tux for the wedding and my camera gear for the "Due North" pick-ups. Too much to remember...
