Floundering!

What's wrong with me?

It's not that I have no drive... nothing like that at all. Still, I feel I just don't know what to do. People tell me I should write, but still the question looms, "write what?!" I know I've a knack for words, but that just isn't enough. On top of that, the writing market is flooded. Just like music, everyone thinks they can do it. Why should I throw myself into the fray of another occupation that's flooded when I actually have credits and schooling in another?

Having said that, I really think it's a better option for me... and therein lies the pressure. Do it! Write something!

Okay, enough whinging. Let me just explain what's going on in my head...

Music is a unique thing: without education, you really can't do it properly. It's like French. Want to speak French? Cool... gotta learn the language. If you don't, it's obvious you don't know what you're saying -- to French speakers, at any rate -- and that's the problem. You can snow a lot of people who don't speak French themselves (producers, for instance). Welcome to the TV industry. The higher forms of the art are irrelevant at this point, I think. If it sounds like French, it's good enough -- forget about any sort of artistic statement. I would use, as a case in point, Carter Burwell. High paid, extremely successful composer. Musically ignorant. I speak French -- he don't. He write like you can think how it's not so not good but 'cause it does this he not so bad at them. Got it? Bitter? Yeah, a little... but that's not the point. Anyway... enough said. So, now I'm going to sit down and start writing, something I've never properly studied? Who am I to think that...? Well, you get the drift.

So there you have it. More to come as my psyche unravels.

Cheers. (Yes, I've had a few drinks!)

-Andrew.

P.S. Oh, yeah... I am writing--currently working on a short story about an adventure holiday gone wrong--so I should just stop whinging and get on with it, eh? Incidentally, for those of you who don't know, here's a definition for whinge.
